General Overview

We are assembling a passionate team to lead and serve the guests of Nuri Steakhouse, an exciting new Dallas-based steakhouse with Asian influences. Our mission is to inspire people to embrace the diverse cultures of the world, and to play a vital role in connecting our communities through these rich cultural experiences.

 

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Sommelier to join our vibrant team. As a Sommelier, you are responsible for curating an exceptional wine program, providing expert guidance to guests, and ensuring a memorable dining experience. Your expertise in wine, spirits, and food pairings will contribute to the overall success of our establishment.

 

Being a team player is key, as you'll need to work closely with the kitchen staff, serve guests with a smile, and communicate professionally with your co-workers. Great communication skills, along with a knack for providing knowledgeable and gracious service, are essential in this role. Can't wait to see you bring your friendly personality to our team!

Essential Functions

  • Develop and maintain an extensive wine list, ensuring a diverse selection of quality wines that cater to our guests' preferences and budgets.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, new wine releases, and emerging regions to continuously enhance the wine program.
  • Conduct wine tastings, educate staff, and provide recommendations to guests based on their preferences and the menu offerings.
  • Collaborate with the culinary team to create wine and food pairing suggestions that enhance the dining experience.
  • Assist in the procurement and storage of wines, ensuring proper inventory management and adherence to quality standards.
  • Train and mentor staff on wine knowledge, service techniques, and sales strategies to enhance their ability to provide exceptional customer service.
  • Maintain a professional and welcoming atmosphere in the wine cellar or tasting room, ensuring a memorable experience for guests.
  • Handle guest inquiries, complaints, and special requests related to the wine program with professionalism and efficiency.
  • Stay informed about local, national, and international wine competitions, awards, and industry events to identify opportunities for recognition and improvement.
  • Adhere to all company safety and sanitation policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and laws including health and safety standards.
  • Promote the culture, values, and mission of Restaurant K.

Major Responsibilities / Specific Requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and focus on serving guests.
  • Positive attitude and excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of menu times and food preparation techniques is a plus but not required.
  • Ability to keep the bar organized, stocked, and clean.
  • Ability to remain remain professional in all settings.
  • Ability to learn cash register software used by bars or restaurants.
  • Promote the culture, values, and mission of Restaurant K.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • At least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Knowledge of wines, spirits, and wine production regions, including a deep understanding of grape varieties, vintages, and wine-making processes.
  • Certification from a recognized wine education program, such as the Court of Master Sommeliers or the Wine & Spirit Education Trust, is highly desirable, but not required.
  • Proven experience working as a Sommelier in a high-end restaurant or hospitality environment is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and educate guests and staff about wine.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • A passion for delivering exceptional customer service and creating memorable experiences for guests.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required.
  • To inspire people to embrace different cultures of the world.
